Cascade Community Theatre Presents Fairytales and Folklore

Once upon a time, in a beautiful river valley near the Cascade foothills, there lived some imaginative people with a dream of creating a community theater.

One of these people, a high school student named Ashley Dowden, was inspired to help make that dream come true. Together with her mentor, Ian King, Ashley founded Cheetah Theatah, an after school drama program, for the boys and girls who lived in the Valley.

Cheetah Theatah flourished, eventually outgrowing its home at Cherry Valley Elementary School in Duvall. Finding a new home at Tolt Middle School in Carnation, the theater group changed its name to River View Drama and invited older students to join.

As more and more children discovered the magic of theater, the grown-ups who helped with the program began wanting to perform too. And so they decided to change the name of the theater group to Cascade Community Theatre and to work toward including all ages in the program.

On June 8 and 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Tolt Middle School, the Children’s Program of Cascade Community Theatre presents a mixed bill of fairy tales and folklore. Over 30 kids, ages 8 to 12, bring five stories to life on stage: “The Chinese Cinderella,” “Once Upon a Hundred Years Nap,” “Who Laughs Last?,” “The Fisherman and His Wife,” and “Two Pigs, A Wolf & A Mud Pie.”

Tickets to this Cascade Community Theatre production are $5 and are available at the door. Tolt Middle School is located at 3740 Tolt Avenue in Carnation.

“Fairy Tales and Folklore” is presented in partnership with the Duvall Cultural Commission and the Cascade Performing Arts Council with support from local businesses.
