The Valley Is Alive With 'The Sound Of Music'

A cast of actors ages 12 to 14 play out the heart-warming story of Maria, a high-spirited young postulate who is sent off to work as a governess to the seven unruly children of widower Captain von Trapp, a World War I officer in the Austro-Hungarian Navy.

Through music and song, Maria sparks joy in the hearts of these children who have been feeling the pain of loss since their mother’s death. Although at first resistant to the "sound of music" in the home he runs like the ship he once commanded, the Captain soon succumbs to Maria’s charms. Her warmth and love for the children are apparent even to the Baroness to whom the Captain is engaged to be married.

After some deep soul-searching and with the Baroness’ blessing, Maria consents to marry Captain von Trapp, to the utter delight of the children. The family’s newfound happiness is threatened by Hitler’s ascent to power. Nazi Germany is taking control of Austria, and the Captain is faced with a decision: joining the Nazi party – which he loathes – or forcing his family to leave their home forever.

Cascade Community Theatre middle school students bring to life the classic musical favorites from

"The Sound of Music" - songs like "My Favorite Things," "The Lonely Goatherd," and "Do-Re-Mi."

Performance dates are Friday, June 15 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Tolt Middle School is located at 3740 Tolt Avenue in Carnation.

"The Sound of Music" is presented in partnership with the Duvall Cultural Commission and the Cascade Performing Arts Council with support from local businesses.
