Auditions

Whether you are an experienced performer or stepping onto the stage for the first time, we invite you to audition and become part of our theater community.

Casting needs vary by production, and performers of all backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to participate.

Preparing for an Audition

Requirements vary by production, so always review the specific audition notice for details about roles, dates, materials, and preparation.

Preparing a Monologue

When a monologue is requested, choose a piece that:

  • Fits within the requested time limit
  • Is appropriate for your age and performance style
  • Gives you an opportunity to demonstrate character and storytelling
  • Feels natural and comfortable for you to perform

Unless otherwise stated, prepare a monologue that is approximately one to two minutes long. Memorize it well enough that you can focus on your performance rather than recalling the words.

Practice speaking clearly, making intentional character choices, and beginning and ending confidently. Avoid unnecessary props or costumes.

Preparing a Song

For musical auditions, you may be asked to prepare a short song or a specific number of measures.

Choose a song that suits your vocal range and matches the general style of the production. Follow the audition notice carefully for instructions about length, accompaniment, and sheet music.

What to Bring

Depending on the production, you may be asked to bring:

  • A completed audition form
  • A résumé or list of theater experience
  • A recent headshot or clear photograph
  • Clearly marked sheet music
  • A list of rehearsal and performance conflicts
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes for movement or dance

What to Expect

Auditions may include a prepared monologue or song, readings from selected scenes, group exercises, movement, dance, or music.

Any scenes provided by the theater during the audition do not need to be memorized. You may also be asked to perform material more than once or try a different approach so the directing team can see how you respond to adjustments.

Callbacks

Callbacks may be held when the team would like to see certain performers again. Not receiving a callback does not necessarily mean you are no longer being considered.

Please arrive early enough to check in, listen carefully to instructions, and be honest about scheduling conflicts. Most importantly, remember that the directing team wants you to succeed.

A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol (CCT – Dec 2026 Production)

by Gayden Wren

Synopsis:

A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol is a festive, lighthearted musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, set to the songs of many G&S shows adapted by playwright Gayden Wren. It seamlessly blends Victorian holiday drama with the signature, fast-paced humor of the iconic operetta duo.

CCT’s production will be the Premiere in Washington State. It will be the first time this show is performed in Washington by anyone. Gaydon Wren is excited that we are producing it.

Rather than just a standard parody, the production matches Dickens' traditional narrative with Sullivan's tuneful scores. Familiar characters receive completely new, G&S-style introductions. For instance, Marley's Ghost heralds his arrival with lyrics borrowed from "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" (from The Pirates of Penzance), playfully tweaked to "I am the very model of a mystic supernatural". Another example would be "Three little ghosts for Scrooge are we" (from The Mikado).

Background and Creator
Written by Gayden Wren, this version premiered in New York over 30 years ago and has since become a holiday staple performed by various regional, community, and collegiate opera studios across the country. Wren also authored A Most Ingenious Paradox: The Art of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Director Notes: This show has a lot of singing. Singing ability is required for most parts. Even if the role you get has no solos in it, you will probably be asked to be part of the chorus.

Understand that all ages listed are a recommendation and not a requirement. Every age in a role is negotiable and will be given consideration.
