Hope On Stage: The Shawshank Redemption, May 7-17, 2026

This May, CCT brought The Shawshank Redemption to the Wagner Performing Arts Center stage — and for two weekends, viewers got a front-row seat to one of the great stories about hope.

Based on the Stephen King novella and adapted from the beloved 1994 film, the play follows Andy Dufresne, convicted of murder and sentenced to life at Shawshank prison. What unfolds isn’t really a prison story. It’s a story about friendship — Andy and Red, most of all — and about the stubborn idea that while a body can be locked in a cell, a spirit can’t.

Bringing that to a live stage was no small feat. Director Davin Henrikson led the cast through some of the most demanding material CCT has staged, and they delivered a production that had audience members raving.

“Every single one of the CCT actors exceeded all of my expectations in their roles.” — audience review, May 2026

Thank you to our cast, our crew, the volunteers who built Shawshank’s walls and then tore them down again, and everyone who bought a ticket. Community theater only works because the community shows up. And you did.
